NAIDOC Week | School Holiday Activities



Join us as at Hawaiian’s Mezz as we celebrate NAIDOC week this July school holidays!

We have planned a series of activities and workshops that showcase Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and the theme of this year’s NAIDOC Week – ‘Because of Her, We Can!’


Welcome to Country & Traditional Dance with Kiara Girls Academy & Kevin Fitzgerald 

Monday 9 July, 11am

We will usher in festivities and recognise the past and present custodians of this land with a Welcome to Country by Kevin Fitzgerald, followed by a performance from the Kiara Girls Academy dancers. Kiara Girls Academy is an Australian organisation which drives community-led solutions to overcome obstacles that prevent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls from completing education and reaching their full potential. 


Aboriginal Music Workshop with Kobi Morrison

Tuesday 10 July, 2pm 

Enjoy a one-hour learning journey into the amazing sounds of Aboriginal culture. Led by Kobi Morrison, this workshop will teach children about the history of traditional Aboriginal songs and of course, how to sing them!  Recommended for ages 7-14.


Storytelling Sessions with Josie Boyle

Friday 13 July, 11am and 2pm. 

Led by Josie Boyle, these one-hour sessions will take listeners on a rich journey back in time to discover stories in association with this year’s NAIDOC theme. Josie is a Wonghi woman, featured on ABC's 5 Nations' dreaming stories and has published a children's books. Recommended for all ages.
